Sustainable packaging for fruit and vegetables
Recently, we have worked in collaboration with the Institute for Research and Technology in Food and Agriculture (IRTA) to develop a new sustainable packaging for fruit and vegetables. Thanks to this work, we have been able to produce a packaging that complies with sustainability and environmental standards.
Our Packingreen® packaging is made from biodegradable and compostable materials, which means that they decompose naturally through the action of microorganisms and do not harm the environment. This is essential at a time when companies’ environmental awareness is on the rise and more and more consumers are looking for more sustainable products.
Strengthening partnerships for a more sustainable future
The new collaboration with the Institute of Agri-Food Research and Technology, IRTA, has enabled us to launch a sustainable alternative to traditional plastic packaging that contributes to the reduction of the carbon footprint.
This new packaging is made from plant-based materials such as virgin cellulose, regenerated cellulose or polylactic acid (PLA), which decompose under composting conditions in a short period of time (How long does it take for compostable packaging to decompose?).
In addition, the pack offers ideal permeability for fruit and vegetables to “breathe” without the need for macro-perforation of the pack, which helps preserve the freshness of the food and reduces the cost of packaging by eliminating special finishes such as perforations.
